Miami Sunrise Engagement Proposal

I smile thinking back to this surprise engagement proposal session. The plan was perfect: he told her we were going to meet up for a photo shoot. She loves taking pictures, so she wasn’t suspecting at all. She also told me later that he’s always surprising her and planning things so this wasn’t out of the ordinary for him.

We were to meet at sunrise on the beach near the South Pointe Pier in Miami Beach. He told me we should start off just taking pictures of the two of them in different poses, then at some point I would set up a pose where she would face the water. After about 15 minutes or so of taking pictures, she nonchalantly was facing the water and fixing her hair. He got down on one knee and she was still facing the water! I don’t know what he said, but she turned around and had the best expression on her face! Completely shocked, surprised, and overcome with emotion, she said yes.

Her surprise instantly transformed into excitement and giddiness. She couldn’t believe it!  We took more photos afterward and of course, a close-up of the ring as well. I am so happy for these two and wish them a lifetime of happiness and love!

I’ve photographed quite a few surprise proposals and they’re one of my favorite types of sessions! It’s a moment you’ll always treasure and her reaction will be priceless! I use natural light so I photograph outdoor engagement proposals. I often meet people either at sunrise or before sunset at the beach when the light is beautiful (not too harsh so you end up squinting).

Some people have chosen to have dinner or drinks beforehand (for example, at Smith & Wollensky which is in South Pointe Park) and then I follow them afterward to a spot we’ve decided on prior to the shoot, such as the beach. You can either not tell her anything and I will follow from a distance and capture the proposal, or you can tell her that you set up a photo session with a photographer in Miami. Do what works best for you! Fill out the contact form or email me at [email protected] to set up a session.
