I met this beautiful, sweet couple at the 1 Hotel South Beach for a sunrise session. The 1 Hotel has a nice lobby (which actually gets quite full even early in the morning!) and a beautiful pool in the back where we took a few photos. We then went to the beach for the remainder of the session. This couple is expecting their first child soon and I’m so excited and happy for them!

You can see other maternity photography sessions on the blog. Every woman carries differently so this can vary, but overall maternity sessions are best scheduled at around 7-8 months of your pregnancy. Check out other photo sessions at the 1 Hotel South Beach and all of the couple photo sessions in Miami.

The 1 Hotel is very close to Collins Park (where the Bass Museum is), so one option would be to photograph part of the session there and then walk across the street to get beach photographs for the second half of the session. To book a maternity, couple or family session, please contact me or email info@tovaphotography.com .

Suggestions for your maternity session:

  1. Bring 2 outfits to change it up. You can bring 1 dressier outfit for the greenery/urban area, and 1 more casual, flowy dress for the beach. You can get ideas of what to wear from this Maternity Pinterest board I assembled from past maternity sessions.
  2. If your session is at the beach, always bring a towel and change of clothes – especially if you need to change and clean up before getting in a taxi/uber to get back to your hotel.
  3. Bring water, especially during Miami’s warmer months. It’s important to stay hydrated!
  4. Decide if you want to go in the water and if so, bring an outfit you don’t mind getting wet. Don’t forget a towel and change of clothes!
  5. Have fun during the session! It will go by quicker than you think 🙂 Don’t stress about how to stand or poses – I’ll guide you during the session, but don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s something specific you have in mind.

We arranged to meet at the beach behind the 1 Hotel South Beach just before sunset. I waited a short distance away from where they would be exiting the hotel on the Miami Beach boardwalk. I followed them from a little ways away, until she got down on one knee, then I got a bit closer to capture the moment. Funny enough, there were some people directly behind them near the water who I waived away. Luckily they saw me and moved out of the frame. Her reaction to the proposal was priceless!

After taking some photos of the two of them together after the proposal, we headed to a poolside cabana at the 1 Hotel for some celebratory champagne. As they walked to the cabana, the bed was covered in red rose petals and and a bucket on the wooden coffee table held the two champagne glasses. Everyone by the pool began cheering and congratulating the couple.

I loved working with these two incredibly kind and fun women, and am so happy for both of them! There were so many photos I loved from the session but had to force myself to narrow it down to these favorites. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed photographing them! 🙂

Erin contacted me about setting up a beach photo session to capture the love they share and the memories they’ve made together as a family. Even though they didn’t plan for it in advance, somehow they had the perfect wardrobe wearing white, cream, light blue and pink which stood out well against the blue of the water (see ideas for what to wear to a session).  They couldn’t have been more fun and easy to work with. As a photographer, you can suggest ideas and poses but you need the connection and love between people for magic to happen. The ones of them laughing are some of my favorites 🙂

They were also extremely flexible with the timing of the session. Some days can be cloudy with less light to work with, while this particular day was very sunny so I asked them if they were okay with postponing it to a bit later to get the golden light (and less squinting!) which they quickly agreed to. We managed to finish the session just as the sun was setting.

For this photo session, we met up at the beach behind the 1 Hotel South Beach. Because lots of the buildings along Collins Avenue can block the sun, I try to head to areas in between the buildings where the light comes through. We found a spot close-by on the beach which worked perfectly.
