Fontainebleau Friends Photo Shoot Miami Beach

So fun photographing these three women! Patty was celebrating her birthday and traveled to Miami with her sister and friend. We photographed at the Fontainebleau and on the beach behind the hotel. The Fontainebleau has a great walkway with a lot of natural light that is perfect for photography (they generally do not allow photography on the premises but if you’re out of people’s way and are quick to photograph there usually isn’t an issue). There’s also a wooden boardwalk with palm trees in the background that I think makes for a great backdrop showcasing Miami’s tropical landscape. My favorite image has to be the one where they are laughing while lifting the birthday girl.

It had been a little while since I had been to the Fontainebleau. I’ve met many families and couples there over the years, usually taking photos by the beach. This particular day it was quite windy outside, especially by the beach. This family was more than happy to stay on the grounds of the Fontainebleau where it was less windy. The pool area was mostly empty and there was a huge space to work with to get different backdrops.

What I particularly enjoyed was photographing their two daughters. The oldest is wise beyond her years, and kept me intrigued talking about her passions and what she is pursuing in college. I look forward to seeing her conquer the world with her intelligence and ambition. Her younger sister is extremely mature and one of the most confident seven-year-old I’ve ever met. She struck her own poses and instead of giving me a cheesy smile, she would gaze seriously at the camera.

The grandparents joined us in the middle of the session and everyone was thrilled to see them. It was especially heartwarming to see the closeness that the grandchildren have with their grandparents. Documenting the relationships between people is what remains most important to me and what makes the photos more interesting and meaningful to the people in them.

This photo session took place at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach before sunset. See a list I’ve compiled of some of my favorite spots for a photo session in Miami.

There they were at the crack of dawn. Standing on the sand, the sun just beginning to rise from the horizon. I was impressed- a family of 6 dressed and ready by 7:15am. Their youngest was still busy finishing his cheerios and wasn’t keen on giving them up, so I began photographing the parents to take advantage of the golden light.

I set them up for a family photo and used one of my animal puppets to get the children’s attention. They started to laugh, not expecting a monkey to be wrapped around a camera lens. Then it was time for some candid, in-the-moment photos. The family ran on the beach holding hands together, smiling and laughing. We also made sure to get some of the parents with each child. Those usually end up being some of my favorites. The children are thrilled to have some one-on-one time, and it really makes for some loving and sweet photos. We also took portraits of each child individually and a few more of the parents alone.

After a full hour together (which really flew by), I left with a smile on my face. I love spending time and having the opportunity to photograph such sweet, loving and joyous families.

This photo session took place at the beach behind the Fontainebleau at sunrise. You can see a list of my favorite spots in Miami for a photo session. Contact me here to set up a photo session.
