This couple met in college and knew each other for a couple of years before Daniel decided to propose. He reached out to me knowing he wanted to propose at Vizcaya. He proposed in the Tea House behind the museum and she said yes! We spent the hour in the beautiful Vizcaya gardens on a weekday afternoon.
The soon-to-be bride’s best friend called me: she wanted to help arrange a surprise proposal! We talked about doing it at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The logistics were simple: wait on a bench outside the “Tea House” located behind the museum. Follow the couple into the Tea House and capture their proposal! Everything went according to plan. What was so funny though was that Melanie knew it was coming. Some girls just know ha. But it didn’t make the moment any less special.
Wandering around Vizcaya was incredible, as always. Each spot offers another unique background. To quote from Vizcaya’s website: “Vizcaya’s European-inspired gardens are among the most elaborate in the United States. Reminiscent of gardens created in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Italy and France, the overall landscape design is conceived as a series of rooms.”
When we finished up the session, Melanie facetimed her best friend (the one who helped plan everything), and she was in tears. She was dying to know how it all turned out! I was finally able to meet her too, albeit via the internet 🙂 Congratulations Melanie and Marcus!! Wishing you a lifetime filled with lots of love, laughter and happiness.
It was such a joy working with this couple and having the opportunity to capture such an important day in their lives. The plan we worked out in advance was that he would propose in the “Tea House” which is located behind the Vizcaya Museum.
I sat on a bench thats next to the Tea House nervously waiting for them to pass me. They came with some of their family members as well, so the group passed me and I followed them. The family allowed the couple to enter the Tea House first. They put their arms around each other and lovingly embraced- though she still hand no idea what was about to happen… As he reached into his jacket to pull out the ring, she put her hands over her mouth in utter shock. This was actually happening. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and of course she said yes. With tears of joy running down her face, she hugged their loved ones that were standing nearby and showed them the ring. It was an emotional moment for everyone.
We spent the rest of the time photographing around Vizcaya gardens. It’s a wonderful place to photograph because there are so many different beautiful backgrounds.
I am so overjoyed for these two beautiful people and wish them a lifetime of love and happiness together. I received this really sweet email from them after I sent them their photos. Sharing it with their names removed for privacy:
