Aventura Family Photographer: An at-home lifestyle session

I adore in home sessions. I love outdoor photo shoots too, don’t get me wrong, but there’s always something special about sessions at home. There’s a certain comfort level, especially for young kids. They’re already in their home environment so it’s a safe space for them. There’s also some other benefits: there’s no wind, usually no squinting from strong sunlight, and kids just seem so much freer to be themselves but in a more contained space then say, a park or a beach. So if you’re someone that wants to capture your kids, as they are (posed + natural, REAL photos) , in a place that’s very personal to you, you may just want to consider a session at home.

For this session, these two girls (and their dog) were just plain ADORABLE. The oldest was obviously excited and was quickly talking to me about everything you can imagine and then wanting to show me her room. She even happily agreed to let me photograph her to “test out the lighting” but in truth, it allowed me to get a gorgeous portrait of her (the first black and white photo you see below). The youngest, meanwhile, was not as talkative but she was SO playful, wanting to be silly and just have fun. When I asked the parents if the kids might like being held upside down (in their bed) the kids were simply THRILLED about the idea (I’m crazy about that photo – #5 – with their legs in the air. I love a good classic portrait but there’s something special about playful photos where everyone is interacting with each other).

I could keep waxing poetic about lifestyle sessions at home, but to conclude, if you have windows with natural light coming in, or perhaps even a backyard space that can work, you should definitely consider a session at home. Especially with babies and young children.

This Aventura Family Photographer photo session took place in the morning around 10am. Generally mornings are best for indoor sessions, but early afternoon can be a good time, too. I always recommend booking sessions when your kids are generally happiest.

This session took place at their home in Aventura, but I service the South Florida area including neighborhoods such as South Beach, Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Bal Harbour, Brickell, the Design District, Cutler Bay, Pinecrest, Fort Lauderdale and more.
