Miami Beach Botanical Garden Family Photo Session

This is actually my brother and sister-in-law’s family. I’ve photographed them several times, however these are my favorite photos of them to date. Living in Pittsburgh, they always wanted photos at the beach – completely understandable. However this time we decided to go to the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, one of my favorite spots in the South Beach area. Because there’s so much shade, you can really photograph there at any time during the day. For the beach, you’re limited to sunrise and before sunset. Since it’s completely exposed, the light becomes too harsh midday.

My sister-in-law is a talented photographer (check out her website, Facebook and Instagram page). She has a great eye for wardrobe and had the outfits planned way in advance – we just went over a few last minute choices. The kids were all in really great moods so it was easy to get lots of great photographs in the hour. The hour flew by really quickly, and soon after that you could see the kids getting tired. We wrapped up the photo session with some photos of the grandparents, and I jumped in for one to get a photo with my nieces and nephew.

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden, as of September 2019, charges $50 an hour to photograph there. They are closed on Mondays and open daily the rest of the week from 9am-5pm. They close on New Year’s Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. General admission to the garden is always free. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person for large groups, and $5 per person for guided tours.
