South Beach Surprise Proposal Photographer

It’s hard not to love photographing proposals. Minus the nerves leading up to the session, it’s one of the joys in life I get to document. Here’s how this one went down:

The plan: South Pointe Park and the beach had opened up during the coronavirus pandemic. The plan was for us to meet at the park, I’d follow them from a distance, and he’d propose by the water.

How it went down: Ben sent me a photo beforehand of the two of them so I knew who to look for, and told me what they’d be wearing. I was looking for a woman wearing a turquoise dress when I checked my email just before the session was about to start and saw a photo that said: change of outfit! So I was no longer looking for a turquoise dress any more but pink shorts and a white top haha.

I then received a phone call from him and he said: change of plans! They were eating some appetizers at Smith & Wollensky and instead of me following them, he would introduce me as a photographer that would take some photos of them before sunset (he’s done this before with her so she didn’t view it suspiciously). I met the two of them without any handshakes (times have changed quickly during this pandemic!) and we walked down the pathway to the beach.

Once we got to the water, they posed for the camera and then… he turned to her, took her hands in his, and got down on one knee. To say she was surprised is an understatement. She was completely taken back, joyous, happy… all the feels. I loved capturing her many facial reactions! These two are just ridiculously adorable and so in love. Feel lucky to have been there to witness and document this time in their lives.
