Best Proposal Locations in Miami (From a Local Proposal Photographer)

Best Proposal Locations in Miami

Looking for the best proposal locations in Miami? This guide I’ve put together has the top spots. Miami has more proposal-worthy backdrops than almost any city in the country, but not every pretty spot works for a proposal. Some are packed on weekend afternoons, some require permits for photographers, and some look better in a photo than they feel in person. I’m Tova, a Miami proposal photographer, and I’ve photographed proposals for over 10 years across the city. This guide covers the spots I’d recommend, when to go, and what to know before you pick one.

How to Choose a Location

Before the list, think about three things:

  • Privacy. Do you want a quiet moment, or are you fine with an audience?
  • Light. Sunset spots need the right angle, and some of Miami’s best views face the wrong way for evening light.
  • Logistics. Parking, walking distance, and heat all matter when you’re nervous and carrying a ring.

Best Proposal Spots in Miami

Gardens and greenery –  Miami proposal locations

  1. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. One of the most romantic, beautiful spots in Miami that is the perfect backdrop for a proposal. The garden features unique architectural elements and a French & Italian styled garden, with the museum situated by the Biscayne Bay for water views. Vizcaya charges a photo permit fee that varies based on whether it’s a weekday or weekend session. You can also opt for an early access permit which is a great option if you’d like more privacy, or want to propose at a popular spot such as the Tea House.Best Proposal Locations in Miami - Vizcaya museum and garden
  2. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Lush, shaded, and good for midday. They charge a photo permit fee that includes admission for up to 3 people, including the photographer. Some great spots are: in front of, or in the middle of, Glake Lake; the archway, the Bailey Palm glade, and the vine pergola. It’s more of a local, less-known spot and quite large and spread out, so it’s a great location if you want more privacy. Verify with Fairchild ahead of time to make sure the day you want doesn’t have any events going on.Romantic proposal at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Waterfront and skyline

  1. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (Key Biscayne). The Cape Florida Lighthouse located in the state park makes for a beautiful and unique Miami backdrop. I highly recommend a weekday session as it gets quite packed on weekends. Admission is $8 to enter the state park.

  2. Crandon Park (Key Biscayne). This local spot is a gorgeous, tropical paradise with lots of palm trees by the ocean. It gets very busy on weekends but remains quiet on weekdays.A romantic proposal at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne
  3. South Pointe Park (Miami Beach). Ocean, cruise ships, and a long pier. Best at sunrise for less people, or a weekday session before sunset. There is very limited parking even in the morning, so I highly recommend taking an Uber/Lyft/taxi. Weekdays are your best bet as it gets very busy on weekends. One option can be to propose on the beach, or there are nice spots next to the lighthouse sculpture with palm trees and views of the bay.

  4. Rickenbacker Causeway (Key Biscayne). Skyline views across the water, especially at sunset. Gets busy on weekend afternoons, but ask me about a quieter, less-known spot.
  5. Any beach spot along the coastline – such as 21st Street and Collins Avenue, 53rd Street and Collins Avenue – if you are a staying at a hotel situated on or close to the water, meeting there at sunrise or 1-2 hours before sunset is always a great choice and keeps the logistics easy. You don’t have to worry about taking an uber/taxi, rush hour traffic, etc. You can simply take a walk along the water.

  6. Matheson Hammock Park (Coral Gables) – this park is unique in that it has both a waterfront side with views of the Biscayne Bay and palm trees and another area that is shaded with lots of oak trees (you need a car to drive to both sections) . The area by the water is very pretty and a quieter spot on weekdays.

Other ideas:

  • Propose on a boat. I photographed a proposal on a boat before they embarked and also on a private boat ride where it was just the couple, the captain and me on the boat. For this yacht proposal, their closest friends and family decorated the interior of a yacht and I photographed their surprise proposal before they took off on their boat adventure.

  • I think choosing a location that can have personal meaning for both of you (a bookstore, a certain neighborhood, a favorite romantic vantage point, etc.) can also be unique and special. You want to choose a spot and time where your partner will be most comfortable – whether that’s a quieter location or somewhere with more people. This proposal by the Faena forum was very unique and perfect for this couple that appreciated the architectural elements of the photos.

  • Miami Beach Botanical Garden. A small, intimate yet beautiful gardens in South Beach. They do require the purchase of a photo permit. The small red bridge in the Japanese garden is one option.
  • Montgomery Botanical Center – a very unique, gorgeous spot only availably by appointment.
