Coral Gables Photographer – Best Locations for Families and Engagements

I love Coral Gables. There are so many great spots for photography in “The City Beautiful.” My favorite locations as a Coral Gables Photographer are: Matheson Hammock, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, the Coral Gables Prado Entrance and Ingraham Park. Each place has it’s own rules; some need a permit, some don’t. Here is a synopsis of each location as well as photos that were taken there.

The Best Photography Locations in Coral Gables, Florida

1. Matheson Hammock

Matheson Hammock is a tried and true favorite. It’s really glorious in the afternoon before sunset. Early mornings also have night light. The nice thing about Matheson is the variety of backdrops. There’s the more shaded area with oak trees and spanish moss which is stunning in the early and late afternoon. You can then drive to the area by the water to photograph by the colorful palm trees and the bay. It’s a great place for kids who love to explore, climb trees and be out in nature. It’s also a beautiful spot for engagement pictures.

2. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

I’m not sure how I lived in Miami for so long without ever having been to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. First off, it’s quite expansive. One thing I love about Fairchild is that because some areas are fully shaded, you can photograph in mid-day and still get stunning photos. Generally though I like to photograph there in the morning or afternoon when the sun isn’t so intense. I’ve photographed a lot of surprise proposals at Fairchild. Glade Lake offers a stunning tropical view for proposals. A few people have also proposed in the Danielson Vine Pergola walkway.

Fairchild is fantastic for both couples and families with its array of backdrops. I love the walkway by the rainforest which has a mist and creates a neat effect in photographs, the elegant steps with palm trees in the background, the huge trees with wide trunks, the vine pergola walkway, the cacti garden, the butterfly greenhouse called the “Wings of the Tropics Exhibit”. I can go on 🙂 You can take a look at a map on their website.

3. Coral Gables Prado Entrance

I’ve had such fun family photo sessions at the Coral Gables Prado Entrance! It’s elegance meets nature. This historic entrance is very popular with photographers and its easy to see why. I adore the archways, the bougainvillea’s, the water fountains and majestic oak trees.

As a Coral Gables Photographer, I would also recommend as a runner up two more places:

4. Ingraham Park

Ingraham Park is a small, often overlooked park but I LOVED the session I did there. There’s a colorful red bridge, an elegant walkway and water fountain, and beautiful greenery. It was perfect for a family of four session one early morning.

5. At home session

Some of my favorite images were created in people’s homes and backyards. Sometimes home is the best place and you don’t even have to venture anywhere.
