How the Surprise Proposal at Vizcaya Happened
The plan: For this Vizcaya gardens proposal, he bought a premium early access permit. This way, the garden was empty – even though it was a weekend in the winter time in Miami. That’s the benefit of buying the early morning permit which gives you access before the garden opens to the general public. The plan was that he would ask if I could take a photo of them with their phone.
How it went down: I arrived before them and was pretending to be photographing the landscape just outside of the Tea House – minding my own business 🙂 They walked by me and went into the Tea House and were taking selfies. He then asked if I could take a photo of them with his phone. I said, of course! and then – he went down on one knee and proposed! Of course, I captured it all with my professional camera. We then walked around the gardens to photograph in one of my favorite spots in all of Miami. There is no shortage of gorgeous backdrops in Vizcaya, thanks to the unique architectural features and garden design.
S & A met 10 years ago and became friends. They’re now best friends and lovers getting hitched! So very happy for them. What an honor it is to photograph people in love on one of the most joyous and exciting days of their lives.
