Edgewater Family Holiday Photography Session

This family wanted some in-home family photos for their holiday card. We thought about take some photos outside as well but the wind was kicking up pretty strong so we decided to just stay indoors. Their apartment had beautiful natural light from a window. Their daughter was in a great mood and even their dog looked straight at the camera for the photos! (I do have a little squeaker that may have helped… or the frog puppet on my hand looked like a toy he wanted to play with haha).

Check out all of the family photo sessions and indoor, at-home photo shoots.  This Edgewater Family Holiday Photography Session took place in the Edgewater neighborhood of Miami. Indoor home sessions are great for young babies or kids, and any room with window light can work. There’s a certain comfort everyone feels at home, and you’re not subject to outdoor weather – wind, heat, sun, etc. It’s especially a great option to capture the newborn stage. To book a family or couple session contact me here or email info@tovaphotography.com

Wynwood Family Photographer: Year number five!

Wynwood Family Photographer: Year number five!

I’ve been photographing this family for five years now; from when the youngest was under a year and not even walking on her own yet! It’s hard to remember what they looked like at that age, but thankfully there are photos to remind us 🙂 That was year #1. You can also check out their session from two years ago and three years ago. We’ve always met up at South Pointe Park, however this year they decided to meet up in Wynwood instead. I think it’s safe to say the kids had the most fun yet. I scouted the area in advance and found several backgrounds where the light was nice in the morning. The girls had a blast running around Wynwood. You can take a look at all of the photo sessions in Wynwood. If you’re thinking of taking photos in Wynwood and wondering what to wear: you can choose a classic look such as white and/or black like this family did (or all white), or you can go bold and wear colorful outfits like you see in this session. Either option works. The most important thing is to feel comfortable and good in what you’re wearing. Check out this Pinterest board for ideas on what to wear to a photo shoot.

Check out all of the family photo sessions on the blog. This Wynwood Family Photographer session took place on a weekend in the early morning (there are less people around at this time). I have a list of some of my other favorite locations in Miami for a photo shoot. Wynwood is one of those places where you can really photograph at any time, morning, afternoon or mid-day. Just keep in mind that mid-day in the summer will be hot and humid, so come prepared with cold drinks and comfortable, breathable outfits, and maybe even a change of clothing.

The Wynwood Walls (a private, enclosed area with murals) opens at 10:30am and closes at different times depending on the day. It gets super busy, especially on weekends, but the surrounding public area of the Wynwood district is full of murals and you can find spots without lots of people – that’s where we went for this session (the Walls were closed since we met up before 10am).

It was beautiful “winter” day in December when I met this family at the historic Deering Estate. Their son is graduating from high school and needed senior photos, so that was the main focus of the session. They also wanted to jump in for a few photos to get some family pictures of the entire family for Christmas.

We really couldn’t have lucked with better weather. We initially planned on meeting in the morning around 10-11am but ended up meeting at 1:30pm instead. The beauty of a place like the Deering Estate is that you can photograph mid-day when the sun is usually way too bright and harsh in open areas like the beach, but works really well at the estate since there is plenty of shade. There’s also so many backgrounds and locations to use. There’s a mango orchard in the front, several historic structures that make for a wonderful backdrop for photos, and it’s located on the water by the Biscayne Bay.

The Deering Estate charges a $100 + tax permit fee to photograph there (includes up to 4 people, additional guests have to pay the regular admission fee) but I think it is worth it (in comparison, Vizcaya charges a $160 and $267 permit fee for weekday/weekends as of today, March 2019.) You can read about the Deering Estate’s history on their website.

So grateful I got to work with this wonderfully sweet, kind family. They left me this super kind review after their photo session:

From identifying the best locations for a family photo session, capturing the true personalities of each family member, expeditiously processing and returning our photos, to delivering an amazing collection of pictures that we’ll cherish forever; Tova provided outstanding service at a great value. Stop researching this decision and contact her; you won’t regret it.
