….and the proposal!!

The soon-to-be bride’s best friend called me: she wanted to help arrange a surprise proposal! We talked about doing it at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The logistics were simple: wait on a bench outside the “Tea House” located behind the museum. Follow the couple into the Tea House and capture their proposal! Everything went according to plan. What was so funny though was that Melanie knew it was coming. Some girls just know ha. But it didn’t make the moment any less special.

Wandering around Vizcaya was incredible, as always. Each spot offers another unique background. To quote from Vizcaya’s website: “Vizcaya’s European-inspired gardens are among the most elaborate in the United States. Reminiscent of gardens created in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Italy and France, the overall landscape design is conceived as a series of rooms.”

When we finished up the session, Melanie facetimed her best friend (the one who helped plan everything), and she was in tears. She was dying to know how it all turned out! I was finally able to meet her too, albeit via the internet 🙂 Congratulations Melanie and Marcus!! Wishing you a lifetime filled with lots of love, laughter and happiness.

Vizcaya Proposal Photography Session

It was such a joy working with this couple and having the opportunity to capture such an important day in their lives. The plan we worked out in advance was that he would propose in the “Tea House” which is located behind the Vizcaya Museum.

I sat on a bench thats next to the Tea House nervously waiting for them to pass me. They came with some of their family members as well, so the group passed me and I followed them. The family allowed the couple to enter the Tea House first. They put their arms around each other and lovingly embraced- though she still hand no idea what was about to happen… As he reached into his jacket to pull out the ring, she put her hands over her mouth in utter shock. This was actually happening. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and of course she said yes. With tears of joy running down her face, she hugged their loved ones that were standing nearby and showed them the ring. It was an emotional moment for everyone.

We spent the rest of the time photographing around Vizcaya gardens. It’s a wonderful place to photograph because there are so many different beautiful backgrounds.

I am so overjoyed for these two beautiful people and wish them a lifetime of love and happiness together. I received this really sweet email from them after I sent them their photos. Sharing it with their names removed for privacy:

Dear Tova,

WOW WOW WOW!!! I am in love with these photos. Both K and I are amazed with how well they turned out. You did a phenomenal job!!! Thank you so very much for this great work you’ve done. Thank you for your time, energy, effort, and work!
I cannot stop smiling.
Again, thank you Tova!
Warm Regards,
N & K

You can view all the surprise proposals I’ve done in Miami. Vizcaya is a gorgeous place to photograph just note that they do require a photography permit to photograph there.

Vizcaya Family Photo Session

It’s not too often that people choose Vizcaya Museum & Gardens as the backdrop for their photo session in Miami. There is a permit fee, but I think it’s really worth it for the unique backdrop that Vizcaya offers. We went there during the weekday for an afternoon session. Their white and khaki outfits were perfect so they stood out from the background. While this brother and sister have very different personalities, I love that we were still able to capture some sweet moments between them. She lovingly placed her arms around him and gave him a kiss on the cheek -total heart melt! Then the two walked hand in hand toward me, sometimes running gleefully.

I love the one of the mother holding her son in the gardens and kissing his cheek. My other favorite is the father throwing his daughter in the air as she laughs and seems to float in the air. We spent the remaining minutes of daylight by the water. I adore the last one where the daughter is gazing intently with a serious face, her arm wrapped around her mother’s neck as she looks back at her lovingly.

I highly recommend Vizcaya if you are looking for a unique spot in Miami for a photo session. It would be perfect for a Miami engagement session or a small family photo session. You can easily spend two hours here if you really want to utilize different area of the gardens as well as the water. The villa and gardens were built in 1916 in the Italian Renaissance style by James Deering. While you can’t photograph inside the museum itself, the gardens offers a gorgeous and unique backdrop, replete with statues, arches, and perfectly landscaped greenery.
