Erin contacted me about setting up a beach photo session to capture the love they share and the memories they’ve made together as a family. Even though they didn’t plan for it in advance, somehow they had the perfect wardrobe wearing white, cream, light blue and pink which stood out well against the blue of the water (see ideas for what to wear to a session).  They couldn’t have been more fun and easy to work with. As a photographer, you can suggest ideas and poses but you need the connection and love between people for magic to happen. The ones of them laughing are some of my favorites 🙂

They were also extremely flexible with the timing of the session. Some days can be cloudy with less light to work with, while this particular day was very sunny so I asked them if they were okay with postponing it to a bit later to get the golden light (and less squinting!) which they quickly agreed to. We managed to finish the session just as the sun was setting.

For this photo session, we met up at the beach behind the 1 Hotel South Beach. Because lots of the buildings along Collins Avenue can block the sun, I try to head to areas in between the buildings where the light comes through. We found a spot close-by on the beach which worked perfectly.

Delano South Beach Hotel Engagement Photo Session

These two happened to be in Miami at the same time, coincidentally at the same hotel. Both were with a friend hanging out at the pool by the Delano Hotel in South Beach. They ended up talking for hours over drinks and hit it off right away. They shared a lot in common and knew there was a connection. They kept in touch over long distance and now here they are several years later, engaged. They thought it would be a good idea to head back to where they met for the first time. It was funny as they spotted the couch where they had their first conversation. After spending some time at the hotel, we headed to the beach before sunset for the remainder of the session.

I love photographing engagement sessions and will work with you to figure out the best location for you and recommend the best time for lighting. You can opt to wear one outfit for the whole session or change mid-session for a different look (one more dressy, one more casual for example). It’s totally up to you! Best advice I have is to be yourself – always wear what is comfortable and makes you feel really good – and just enjoy being with your partner. I give plenty of direction on what to do during the session but am always open to any ideas you might have. It’s normal to feel awkward at first being photographed but as the session goes on you’ll get more comfortable and feel more at ease 🙂

Miami Maternity Photo Session

These two came down to Miami Beach from Ocala, Florida and decided to schedule a beach maternity session while in town. They were so easy to photograph! Their love for each other really shows, and this momma-to-be looked especially radiant. At seven months pregnant, it was the perfect time to show off her belly. Sometimes the husbands aren’t exactly thrilled to take part in a photo session, but he was so sweet and gladly obliged with all my ideas. I’m so excited for these two future parents! Can’t wait to meet the little one next time they’re in town.

I generally recommend scheduling a maternity photo session around 7 months, when you’re showing but still feel pretty comfortable. This is of course up to you – it could be scheduled at 6 or 8 months depending on your body and how you’re feeling. Once the baby arrives, I love photographing the newborn stage. This can can take place n the comfort of your own home (any room with lots of windows and natural light works best) or outdoors in a very shady area.
