It’s hard to believe that I’ve been photographing this family for 4 years since she was just 5 months old. Time passes by fast, and documenting the changes has been a real gift for me.  See the first post from 3 years ago, 2 years ago and last year.

Photographing this family every year reinforces for me why I think it’s so important to take yearly photos of your family. Kids grow up so fast and before you know it, a few years have passed and they’ve changed incredibly. Scheduling yearly sessions document the growth of your child and the connections you have at this unique moment in time which you can never get back.

Being a Miami family photographer, I know that family dynamics and family relationships are in constant flux. The relationship you have with you child at 2 years old will be different than the one you have with them at 5 or 10 years of age. I love that photography can capture your child when they are entirely dependent on you, and then show the advances they make towards independence. The 1 year old that gladly held your hand as you walked along the beach might want to run on the beach themselves the next year.

Have you seen the black and white portraits from the movie Boyhood? I love portraits that show how we are always changing. The changes are especially significant and carry so much meaning when you can see your child growing up year by year.

To help you prepare for your next session with a Miami family photographer, take a look at my post on what to wear for a session and this list of Miami locations. You can also check out my top five tips on how to prepare for a family session. The most important thing however when it comes to family sessions is simply to have fun! Photo shoots are a time to spend time with you kids hugging, laughing and playing.

If you are looking for a Miami family photographer, I would recommend taking a look at the photographer’s portfolio to see if you like their work. It’s so important that you have a similar vision in mind. Next, I would check out their reviews to make sure people were happy with the complete experience. I also like to check out people’s blogs to see if they are consistently working. This tells me that it’s someone who has a lot of experience and is completely focused on photographing as their passion. Lastly, contact the photographer and see how easy it is to communicate with them. Do they respond within a reasonable amount of time? Most professionals respond within 24 hours or less.

In conclusion, when booking a Miami family photographer the two most important things for me would be 1. Do you love their work? and 2. Do they have positive reviews? Because I would want to work with someone who knows what their doing, is communicative, professional, friendly and makes the session a pleasant experience.
